Just 1 of 49 passengers located from missing boat carrying wedding party

One passenger out of 49 has been found so far from the missing boat that disappeared from the radar earlier this week in Bali’s waters.

That still leaves the 48 remaining passengers of the boat unaccounted for. East Java’s search and rescue teams are continuing their search for the other 48.

The passenger boat was sailing from Raas Island in Sumenep regency, Madura, East Java, when it was reported missing Monday evening at 6 pm local time.

Chief Sahat Hasibuan has confirmed the discovery of the male passenger and has stated that they found him unharmed, floating on wooden shards off of Raas island. From there, the passenger was immediately evacuated to Madura Raas for help, according to reports posted by VIVAnews. Hasibuan is the head of operations directorate of the East Java Regional Water Police.

Based on information related to fishing in the area, there are signs that the boat sank around Todung Madura islands, said Hasibuan. He also noted that this tragedy was caused by leaks in the hull.

The ill-fated boat was carrying dozens of passengers from a bridal entourage.
