Coincidence? Tolak Reklamasi posters were allegedly vandalized before democracy forum

Even though the hot topic last weekend was something along the lines of “Indonesia for democracy” in Nusa Dua with the president’s visit for his special Bali Democracy Forum, posters of Bali’s biggest protest were quickly pulled out of sight to make way for the event.

From Ngurah Rai Airport to the Palace of Suakawati, Gianyar, dozens of “Tolak Reklamasi” posters were taken down by police, according to Mongabay. Some of the posters, protesting the reclamation of Benoa Bay, were also reportedly vandalized, especially in the Sanur area, alleges Mongabay.

Now that the president has left Bali and the democracy forum is over, we’re wondering if signs will be “allowed” to stay up. The biggest irony is that this is the same democracy forum that lead to the ban on protests and demonstrations for the weekend.
