Tessy, 66, a famous comedian from the popular Indonesian comedy group Srimulat had a really rough night last Thursday that involved an alleged drug bust and questionable-possible suicide attempt that botched his plans to go to Bali.
He was in Bekasi, West Java when he got caught by police. Tessy was reportedly with several other friends, when around 10 pm, the police made their bust, according to Chief Agus Riyanto, PR for the local police headquarters.
We don’t know what Tessy was thinking, but he clearly was not on board with being caught by the police. He ran into the bathroom and drank cleaning fluid, but still survived. As of Tuesday, Tessy was still undergoing treatment in the hospital, reported the Batam Pos. Needless to say, Tessy and friends didn’t make the journey to Bali as originally planned.
Tarzan, another prominent comedian in Srimulat (not the jungle man) was really embarrassed when the story about Tessy broke because of Tarzan’s own involvement in the National Anti-Drug Movement (Granat).
“It’s a shame. Because I’m a member of Granat, but I could not save my friend,” said Tarzan.
However, Tessy isn’t the first Srimulat comedian to get in trouble with drugs. Previously, entertainers Doyok, Derry 4 Sekawan, Gogon and Polo got locked up for similar reasons. Police say they sitll don’t know what kind of drugs Tessy was using.
