Golkar’s National Conference in Bali this week isn’t all ‘food fights’ and hospitalizations. Prabowo Subianto, Jokowi’s defeated opponent in the presidential election, caught everyone’s attention on Sunday night when he hugged his ex-wife Titiek Soeharto apparently more intimately than usual.
The Golkar Party’s national conference is being held at the Westin in Nusa Dua, starting last Sunday until this Thursday, to select a new chairman for the party and has been characterized by bickering and negativity, so this hug was really something for people to get excited about.
The head-turning hug reportedly took place when Prabowo was greeted by political elite sitting in the front row. Prabowo did not give Titiek the typical handshake greeting: he started out by saluting her army-style then went in for the hug, reports Tribun Bali. Excited noise from the ‘audience’ supposedly filled the Westin’s Mangunpura Hall with this legendary hug.
Prabowo dressed for the hot Bali climate with a white shirt and beige pants while Titiek wore the distinctive yellow of Golkar.
Thousands of cadres were present for this National Conference meeting and momentous embrace.
