The top 7 weirdest calls Australian consular staff get from Aussie travelers

Who ever said there’s no such thing as a stupid question? Pshh

When traveling abroad, Australian citizens seem to have a way with getting themselves into a pickle, whether in Bali or in other locales. If you don’t agree, be convinced by these “bizarre” calls that consular staff get from Aussie citizens, as reported by news.com.AU. Here are our top seven picks:

1. The overprotective and concerned parent: A mother who wanted the embassy in Bangkok to book accommodation and a return ticket to Australia for her son, then provide an embassy driver to take him to the airport.

2. The concerned pet-lover with no friends: A request from an Australian traveller for DFAT to feed her dogs while she was away.

3. The sports fanatics who won’t use Google or ask locals: Multiple inquires to embassies overseas as to the closest pub televising the State of Origin game.

4. The anxious asthmatic: A traveller who asked whether the sand in Egypt would affect her asthma.

5. The truly clueless: What is the best way to get a pole cat out of your roof?

6. The ‘I don’t understand the concept of customer service’ call: I’m going on a cruise. What will the food be like? Can you drink the water on the ship?

7. The ‘reckless’ traveler ready to evade justice: On my last trip to the Philippines I had some trouble with the law. What is the number of the embassy in Manila so I can call them to get me out of jail when I go back? (just change Philippines to Bali in this one, right?)
