Aussie bros tell totally different version of Canggu glassing incident, claiming they were the real victims

The Australian brothers accused of drunkenly peeing in public then glassing a local Bali restaurant owner are flipping the story on its head a 180 degrees, now that they have safely left Bali.

It was Apa Kabar restaurant owner Wayan Mudipa who was the “aggressor,” said Scott O’Hehir in a statement released Monday afternoon via Scott’s boss, reports Perth Now

Australians across Bali were cringing this weekend after reports first came out of Mudipa alleging that the drunken Perth brothers turned violent on him Friday night in Canggu when he confronted Scott for peeing on a sanggah (Balinese prayer temple) and Tim, 27, for peeing on a shop he owned that was under renovation. Mudipa alleged that Tim hit him in the head and grabbed his neck and Scott then after smashed a bottle into his head, wounding his hands, head, and face.

But things may have gone down totally differently from what Mudipa alleged, if what Scott claims is true: “Yes, after a day’s surfing and three beers over an early dinner Tim and I did go to the toilet on our way to a photographic exhibition but it was not on a temple, it was in a laneway next to a construction site,” said Scott’s statement, as quoted by Perth Now.

“Regardless of the location, it was a poor choice and one we regret.”

But it’s not just the denial of peeing on a temple that Scott mentions in his statement. His version of the glassing attack was the other way around from what mainstream media has been reporting:

“The restaurant owner who confronted us was extremely aggressive, and he cracked a beer bottle over Tim’s head and slashed my arm with it.

“I was rescued by a passer-by who took me to a local doctor, where I received 12 stitches in my arm.

“I was then taken to the Bali International Medical Clinic for further treatment.

“I still have difficulty moving my arm and expect I will need additional treatment because it has cut into a tendon.

“Tim was beaten up by many men and then taken to the police station, we were told for his own protection.”

This is another point in Scott’s story that diverges from mainstream media accounts. Reports over the weekend allege that the brothers tried to run away and Tim was caught by Balinese people either glazing over the point that Tim was mobbed, or not mentioning it because it didn’t happen.

“He has numerous cuts and bruises.

“Neither Tim or I have been charged with any offense.

“Tim and I have left Bali and wish to thank our friends and families for the support they have given us during this ordeal and for the consular assistance provided to us in a very confronting situation.”

The O’Hehir brothers were detained by police after the incident on Friday night and could have been handed a four year prison term, but Monday morning reports broke out that Mudipa withdrew his report on Sunday night and the brothers had been freed after reaching restitution of some sort (reports lacked any specifics).
