Andrew Chan was apparently teaching cooking classes in the prison when he got the big news

As one of his many reported efforts towards rehabilitation, Bali Nine death row inmate Andrew Chan offers cooking classes to his fellow Kerobokan Prison convicts.

It seems that he got the big news of his clemency bid’s rejection yesterday while teaching one of those classes in the newly done Kerobokan Kitchen, according to Tribun Bali. What a buzz kill and way to lose an appetite.

A post to his Facebook page shows some of Chan’s culinary work in kitchen, that is time stamped only hours before Chan must have gotten the bone-chilling news.

News hit the stands yesterday that a letter signed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo was received the Denpasar District Court yesterday around 1:20 pm.

The decision came into effect on January 17, 2015, says head of Public Relations for Denpasar District Court, Hasoloan Sianturi.

Myuran Sukumaran, who was convicted as a ringleader of the Bali Nine smuggling group along with Chan, got his own clemency rejection letter postmarked on December 30, 2014.
