Bali governor prefers if Bali 9 not shot on the island, would disrupt Bali’s ‘tranquility’

NIMBY (not in my backyard) is a sentiment Bali’s Governor Made Mangku Pastika is expressing with the impending Bali Nine executions.

According to a report on Bali Discovery, the governor has stated publicly that he would prefer it if convicted drug smugglers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are shot somewhere other than Bali.

But don’t get him wrong, Pastika also reportedly said this sentiment does not indicate whether he agrees with capital punishment or not.

“It’s not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing (with the death penalty), but, it’s just in Bali…well, it would just be better if it happened somewhere else,” Pastika said, as quoted by Bali Discovery.

He added that he did not want the executions to disturb Bali’s tranquility.

We are still waiting for news on when these executions will actually take place, though both Chan and Sukumaran’s bids for clemency have already been rejected.
