Mother travels to Gili Trawangan to search for missing son, denies body found off Lombok is him

A 24-year-old man who was a month into a Southeast Asia backpacking trip has been missing since last Friday near Bali.

The friends and family of Brazilian national and Gold Coast man Fernando Vieira Campello have been searching desperately for him, with his mother even reportedly flying out to Bali then taking a boat over to neighboring island Gili Trawangan to carry on the search.

A body was pulled from the sea in Lombok yesterday, but the missing man’s mother, Luciana Vieira denies it was her son’s body, reports Australia’s 9 News

“They are saying that they found him dead,” she apparently posted on Facebook.

“It’s a lie!”

His mother has also said witnesses reported her son was behaving confused and paranoid before his disappearance.

“People have seen Fernando in many occasions so we’re guessing he is well but lost his memory,” she wrote.

“They say he looks confused, he must be really scared. Please keep praying that I’ll reunite with my darling son today.”

Campello’s friend Camilla Ramaglio says she is “99 percent” sure the body is not her friend’s according to Brazilian media.

“The body was a taller person, [it] was completely decomposed,” she told newspaper G1.

“[This] is virtually impossible for someone who disappeared on Thursday.

“This body would be at sea for at least a month.”

The family is working with both Australian and Brazilian consulates in Indonesia, reports the Courier Mail.
