Bali 9 executions ‘unlikely’ to affect tourist arrivals from Australia

The government is optimistic that the upcoming executions of two Australians convicted of drug trafficking from the Bali Nine group will not interfere with tourism.

“We do not need to worry about tourism arrivals going down in Bali. The amount of tourists visiting from Australia will remain high,” said coordinating maritime minister Indroyono Susilo in Jogja today, as quoted by VIVA News.

Bali’s provincial government has previously stated that the island hopes to welcome four million foreign visitors in 2015, with a huge chunk of those expected to be Australians, so of course they have considered the executions’ impact on the island’s money-making industry.

Bali Governor Mangku Made Pastika has also insisted the executions not take place on the island of Bali to mess with its harmony and also to not scare tourists. Executions are expected to take place on the central Java prison island of Nusakambangan island.
