Australian teen raped in Bali, police let alleged rapist walk free

A man accused of brutally raping an Australian teen on Christmas day in Bali was reportedly allowed by police to go free and escape the island.

The man allegedly assaulted the 19-year-old Perth teen in a Jimbaran villa continued during a 30 minute taxi ride after she tried to escape, reports the West Australian

When the teen named her alleged attacker as 25-year-old Henry Alafu and identified him for police, they reportedly said that they would follow him to Jakarta so he would lead them to a “bigger network of criminals.”

As if that were bad enough, the teen had to undergo an invasive “virginity test” after her rape (with medical students observing) in Sanglah Hospital and also was transmitted with a painful and uncomfortable STD. She has to wait out four months to know the results of her HIV test.

Her parents have appealed to find her attacker. Reports say the man is believed to be in Java and there’s a new warrant out for his arrest.

“This man raped, threatened and humiliated me. He laughed in my face at my fear and helplessness,” the teen said, as quoted by the West Australian.

“I was terrified. I have had my fair share of nightmares since the incident. Sleep is still difficult.”

This ordeal hasn’t been cheap at all. The family was reportedly billed by a Balinese law firm for USD13,500 for six days of work, including a USD400 email. Seriously?
