Nusakambangan execution site 100 percent ready, just waiting for the ‘big day’

If you did not somehow already think Indonesia was hellbent on executing the two Bali Nine Australians and eight other convicts on death row up for “immediate execution,” you can now be sure the government is extra serious as its saying preparations at the execution site are 100 percent ready.

The regional office of the Ministry of Justice and Human rights says everything in Nusakambangan, Cilacap is right on track. “We’ve been 100 percent ready since February 28. Just waiting for the big day,” said Head of the Central Java Corrections Office today, as quoted by Antara.

But if that’s the case, then why hasn’t any date for the next round of Indonesian executions been announced yet? Cilacap says the hold up is not on the ground, it’s administrative. The Central Java Corrections Head, Kemenkumham Yuspahruddin (the man with the most difficult name in Indonesia), added that it’s in the hands of the Attorney General’s office.

If there’s a problem with the appeal or any other legal issues, it’s not our business, it’s the prosecutor’s, Yuspahruddin said to Antara.

When asked about the possibility of having one of the ten cited death row prisoners in this upcoming execution group, Filipina Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, removed from the execution group, he reportedly said that he hasn’t gotten any notification of her status. Veloso is reportedly still in prison in Yogyakarta, waiting for the verdict on her appeal in Sleman District Court.

Meanwhile, the Bali Nine pair, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have been waiting in Nusakambangan in Cilacap and are said to have exhausted all legal avenues.
