Bali Suitcase Murder: Mack spotted leaving hospital clutching newborn in sarong

The American teen accused of killing her mother and stuffing her in a suitcase reportedly has finally checked out of the hospital and back into the “Hotel K,” Bali’s Kerobokan Prison.

After giving birth to baby Stella last week on March 17, Heather Mack was apparently discharged from Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital yesterday, where she was spotted trying to dodge cameras and conceal her baby from the public’s prying eyes under a sarong.

According to Tribun Bali, hospital costs for the murder suspect were not cheap, tallying up to more than Rp 57.7 million, specifically Rp 48.34 million for Mack’s treatment and Rp 9.36 million for the baby’s. The costs were reportedly borne by the family of Mack’s sayang and alleged co-conspirator, Tommy Schaefer.

A prosecutor in Mack’s trial for murder, Eddy Artha Wijaya, previously said Mack will keep the baby in prison, which is allowed for up to two years, reports Tribun. The prison has a special place for this, which stems from breastfeeding concerns, Wijaya said.

Both Mack and Schaefer are currently being tried separately for the murder in August 2014 of Mack’s mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, whose body was found stuffed into a suitcase. Schaefer confessed last week in his trial to killing the Chicago socialite because the 60-year-old had allegedly threatened him and his baby. The young couople could face the firing squad if convicted.
