GWK statue should finally be finished in 2017

If you’ve traveled to Bali’s Bukit area and visited the Gardua Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, you may have been disappointed to realize the giant bronze statue was not yet finished and the sculptures are still scattered throughout the park in pieces.

Well, we’ve got two more years ahead of us until the huge statue sees its completion with Wisnu riding upon his winged mythical garuda, according to Merdeka

The statue’s creator, Nyoman Nuarta, has apparently promised that the main attraction of GWK will stand perfectly by 2017, a mere decade after the project first started in 1997.

The statue will tower 126 meters with a weight of 3,000 tons, making it an Indonesian tourism landmark in the modern age, Nuarta told Merdeka on Saturday.

Nuarta is using copper, brass, steel, and gold coated mosaic in some parts of the statue.

Surprisingly, Nuarta is not working on this up in the Bukit: he told Merdeka that he’s been making the pieces in Bandung, which will then be broken down for transport to Bali, then built back up on their arrival.

According to Nuarta, the process of sending pieces to Bali has reached 60 percent.
