Man who dissed Nyepi on Facebook still on the loose, to Bali Police’s chagrin

A man who flat out insulted Nypei and the Hindu faith on Facebook when he couldn’t watch his beloved Arsenal match, has still not been tracked down, but Bali Police aren’t giving up.

Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence means no loud sounds, no bright lights, and entertainment like cable is switched off. A person operating under the Facebook profile of Nando Irawansyah M’ali was straight up outraged when the local holiday kept him from his match, so he posted a very offensive status on Facebook with some intense expletives.

Police have tagged this status as blasphemy, which happens to be illegal in Indonesia.

Until now, M’ali has not been placed on the official wanted list, but the special crime arm of the Bali Police is still investigating his case, reports Tribun Bali

Police haven’t put M’ali on the list because of a lack of evidence to catch him blaspheming the Hindu religion during this year’s Nyepi, which fell on March 21, Bali Police head spokesman Herry Wiyanto told Tribun.

He added that police will continue to search for more evidence so they can detain M’Ali who known to be domiciled in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara.
