Strong winds and big waves in Bali may continue until August

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Council of Denpasar (BMKG) warned Bali citizens yesterday that current strong winds conditions (40 to 60 kilometers/hour) will likely continue at least for the next two days and may not ease until August, Tribun Bali reported.

This means that big waves (between 0.5 to 2 meters) are likely to continue hitting the Bali Strait.

Workers engaged in maritime activities, as well as fishermen who conduct their activities on canoes and traditional boats should be extremely wary, BMKG told Tribun Bali. Strait-crossing ferries have also been warned and given information regarding wave heights.

Tribun Bali reported that there were widespread anxieties when a big wave hit a ship on Saturday. The ship reportedly shook, causing the cargo inside it (including a truck) to flip and damage seven motorcycles. Luckily, no lives were lost in this incident.

It was also reported that these big waves could potentially continue until August.

The manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Port Gilimanuk) urged cargo-carrying vehicles not to “pile up their load” when embarking into ferries to avoid unnecessary accidents that these big waves could cause.
