COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Bali and Hawaii have a lot in common. Glorious sunshine, laid back island life, amazing surf, and now smoothie bowls. If you have ever wished you could eat ice cream for breakfast, smoothie bowls are the next best thing.
Nalu Bowls’ signature bowl, the Uluwatu, is a mix of blended dragon fruit, banana, papaya, raspberry, and apple juice topped with slices of fresh strawberries, banana, mango, honey, coconut flakes, and their crunchy homemade granolas. It’s sweet, refreshing, and healthy too! Amen to that.
The J-Bay bowl with peanut butter, banana, honey, and soy milk is perfect for those days when you feel like indulging yourself with something rich. But if you crave for something fresh to cool down on a hot day, the Macaronis bowl made from papaya, mango, dragon fruit, pineapple, strawberry, and apple juice will remind you of your favorite icy sorbet.
Besides the standard blend on offer, you can also add on other toppings like chia seeds, goji berries, other tropical fruits, and our favorite—extra granolas! Too bad they don’t sell the granolas on their own—we’d buy them by the buckets if we could!
Everything is sourced locally, making the most of the abundance of tropical fruits here on the island.
The place is named after the Hawaiian word for ‘wave,’ and each bowl is appropriately named after the owner’s favorite waves from around the world.
The tiny shack has only five seats at its Seminyak location, but we don’t mind standing up in front of the bar to get our hands on these delicious tropical treats! If you’re instead hitting the south for Bali’s big waves on the Bukit Peninsula, you’re in luck because Nalu is now open at Single Fin in Uluwatu as well.
Don’t forget to ask the friendly staff about their loyalty program—where you get a stamp for every bowl and get a free bowl after your tenth stamp.
