Indonesia AirAsia X to launch new Bali-Sydney route

The low-cost carrier Indonesia AirAsia X, an offshoot of the Malaysian airline group, will launch a new service in the near future giving Aussies yet another option for flights to Bali.

“This August we will launch the Bali-Sydney service. The hub will be in Bali. All routes except Jakarta-Jeddah will be through Bali,” said CEO of Indonesia AirAsia X, Dendy Kurniawan, as quoted by Kompas

To clarify Kurniawan’s statement, sales for the Bali-Sydney route will open this August, while the inaugural flight is slated to take off in October this year.

By the end of 2015, Kurniawan says there will be five Indonesia AirAsia X routes operating, but he won’t say what the fifth will be after Bali-Taipei, Bali-Melbourne, Jakarta-Jeddah, and of course, Bali-Sydney.

But what’s more, Kurniawan says Indonesia AirAsia X will add another five routes that will all be out Bali in 2016—and these will be long flights of about nine to 11 hours.
