What was supposed to be a marker of one of the happiest occasions in her life, ended tragically for Chinese woman Li Dan, who reportedly died on a Jimbaran beach while taking pre-wedding photos with her fiancé.

Dan, 26, and her groom-to-be, Lun Lin, 38, had arranged a pre-wedding photo session at the secluded Tegal Wangi Beach in Jimbaran on Monday, August 24.

At about 2:30 pm, while the couple was taking photos on the beach with waves in the background, a wave swept them off their feet, knocking both Dan and Lin into the water, reports Tribun Bali. The waves were reportedly as high as 1.5 meters that day.

The photographer apparently tried to save them—Lin was able to get out, but it was too late for Dan, who was thrown out by the current and tossed against the rocks, according to Tribun.

About an hour later, Dan’s body was found floating on the shoreline about 25 meters from where she drowned. Lin suffered minor injuries to the head and was taken to Kasih Ibu Hospital.

Dan’s body, still reportedly in the wedding dress, was sent to Sanglah Hospital to forensics.

Dan’s body was cremated later on Friday after Sanglah Hospital’s forensics team performed an external examination on her body. Dan’s cause of death was drowning, Dr. Ida Bagus Putu Alit, head of Sanglah’s forensics confirmed to Tribun.
