Indonesia AirAsia X says not to worry, it has enough aircraft in its fleet in compliance with government mandate

After coming under fire for not meeting Indonesian legal requirements for a minimum number of aircrafts in its fleet, Indonesia AirAsia X issued a statement confirming that it does meet the Department of Transportation’s mandate.

The budget subsidiary of the Malaysian airline says it has the 10 required aircraft of Indonesia’s Aviation Law No. 1 Year 2009, so we needn’t worry about the airline getting stripped of its flight permits.

The regulation apparently mandates commercial scheduled airlines in Indonesia must have minimum of 10 aircraft in its fleet and five of those must be owned.

“With a total of 10 aircraft in our fleet, we have therefore fulfilled the regulatory requirement. We are very appreciative of Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation’s extended support and assistance during the process of complying with the aircraft ownership requirement. We remain highly committed to further expand our network to support the Indonesian aviation as well as tourism industry,” Indonesia AirAsia X CEO Dendy Kurniawan said in a statement, as quoted by Asia Travel Tips

Indonesia AirAsia X is popular with budget travelers to Bali, especially amongst Australians since it’s offering cheap flights from Melbourne and Sydney to the Island of the Gods.
