A volcanic ash cloud from Lombok’s Mt. Rinjani has some flights to and from Bali cancelled.
Both Jetstar and Virgin Australia have posted travel alerts on their websites concerning the affected Bali flights since “conditions are unsafe for flying.”
“Jetstar has cancelled two services on Tuesday 3 November (AEST) to and from Singapore to Bali following assessment of the latest information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC),” the travel alert says on Jetstar’s website.
“We will resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so and we will update customers if poor flying conditions lead to further cancellations.
“At this stage, we’re advising customers NOT to travel to the airport for flights to/from Bali and to closely monitor their flight status on Jetstar.com (or via the Jetstar app on their smartphones).” AKA, even if you’re for some reason hankering to leave Bali, don’t just camp out at the airport. Save your time and energy and monitor the situation online before heading over to Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Virgin’s travel alert used very similar wording, adding that safety comes first: “We continue to monitor the situation closely. The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority, and we will keep customers updated as new information becomes available.”
We sure hope this disruptive ash quickly blows over, literally, so not too many people are stranded like what happened earlier this year with Mt. Raung’s ash spewing! (While be stranded in Bali certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing, we would sure feel for all the people trying to get here but can’t.)
