Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport announced that it was open again Monday, Nov. 9, but some airlines, especially those with more southerly routes to Oz, have still canceled their flights for the day, arguing that conditions are not safe with the volcanic ash cloud.
Lombok’s Mt. Barujari (Rinjani) started spewing ash after an eruption on Oct. 25, which eventually started messing with Bali flights last week.
Jetstar posted a travel alert that all Monday flights to and from Bali are cancelled, “following an assessment by our senior pilots and expert operations team of current flying conditions and of the latest forecasts from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre.”
Likewise, Virgin Australia wrote in a travel alert that all services to and from Bali are cancelled for Monday, while all services departing Australia for Bali for tomorrow are also cancelled. The rest of tomorrow (Tuesday’s) scheduled flights are under review, pending assessment of flying conditions.
Stranded travelers and those with upcoming plans to fly in or out of Bali are advised to regularly the travel alerts for their respective airlines as conditions seem ever-changing.
Meanwhile, Lombok’s Praya Airport will remained closed until Tuesday, 8:45 am, according to a recent Garuda Airlines tweet.
