Targeting prostitution in Sanur, Denpasar City to issue order for Rp 50 million fine for both ‘users’ and ‘providers’

The city of Denpasar is ready to crack down on the infamously thriving prostitution business in Sanur.

The Denpasar government has announced it will issue a public order, Denpasar Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2015, that says either providers, users, and/or those that offer prostitution services will be subject to criminal sanctions and a fine of Rp 50 million, according to Merdeka

“This regulation is not only for the provider, but also sanctions users. We are holding socialization for each district, village, neighborhood, and so on,” Head of the Denpasar Civil Service Police Unit, Ida Bagus Alit Wiradana, told Merdeka on Thursday.

Wiradana says the public order will take effect in 2016 after it’s been thoroughly socialized.

“With this rule, there is more power for us to take vigorous enforcement action,” he added.
