LOST DOG: Help us find Coco the Bali dog

Finding a missing black Bali dog on this island is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Which is why we need all the help we can get to find Coco, a one-year-old black Bali dog that has been missing for one week in the Jimbaran area.

Coco's features

Coco hasn’t been seen since Monday Nov. 16, the day she went missing, running south near Four Seasons hotel in Jimbaran, still wearing her red leash and red collar. She unfortunately got out that evening from a gym in Kedonganan when someone left the gate open, so it’s more than possible that she has since doubled back towards the gym and has been hiding somewhere between the beach and busy Jl. Uluwatu. But it’s also possible she kept heading south and somehow made it up towards Ayana or the Balangan area and was not able to make it to her home in the Puri Gading area.

The possibilities of where she could be really are endless. We’ve canvassed the area with reward posters and talked heaps with local community members, but that apparently hasn’t been enough to find her.

She is desperately missed—we know this because she is our editor’s dog.

Life on the streets in Bali isn’t easy for a dog, especially one that we’re the first to admit has been babied too much. For sure there are legitimate fears of dog culling, her being taken for dog meat, used in a ceremony, needlessly fed poison or whacked over the head with a brick, but we still have hope that some how, some way, she is still out there and okay.

Even if you’re not in the Jimbaran area, please keep an eye out for her. One woman told us of how her dog lost in Ubud was found months later in Sanur and another instance where a dog lost in Badung was found all the way in Kintamani. And there’s this story about a lost dog in Canggu, which is probably the only real source of inspiration we have for finding Coco at the moment.
