Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport raises security status from normal to alert

In line with the Ministry of Transport, Bali’s international airport has raised its security status from ‘normal’ to ‘alert’.

This was apparently done under the advice of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) and the Ministry of Transportation.

“We did tighten security, from Normal to Alert. This is in anticipation of terror threats. The increased security status is in accordance with the Minister of Transportation,” General manager of state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I (AP I) Trikora Harjo told Tribun Bali on Monday.

According to Harjo, this security memo was sent to airports throughout the country, not just to Bali.

Some security measures at Bali’s airport include more frequent patrols around the airstrip, the building, and entry points to the airport area. Sniffer dogs have additionally been prepared.

“We will also involve pecalang,” Harjo added.

Besides upped security at the airport, the Ministry of Transport has also focused on seaports, railway stations, and land transportation terminals. Local authorities in Jembrana, West Bali announced they would be prioritizing the Port of Gilimanuk, the major crossing point in Bali over to Java.
