Around 1,400 drivers for the motorcycle taxi and courier app Go-Jek reportedly gathered in front of the company’s branch office on Jl. Teuku Umar Barat (Marlboro) in Denpasar earlier today.

The drivers were furious because they were allegedly fined for creating fake orders, which would affect their scores for the better, while some got harsher penalties and were suspended from the company for a week, according to Tribun Bali.

“We were fined Rp 300,000 to Rp 10 million. On average, fines were Rp 2 million per driver. They said it was about fictitious orders,” Firdaus Abdilah Saputra, a Bali Go-Jek driver told Tribun Bali

According to Saputra, the drivers were accused of cheating by PT Go-Jek. He said drivers suddenly received text messages with no warnings or explanations about fines they were given.

Apparently not so many drivers were thrilled with this turn of events so they took to the streets to protest to Go-Jek and demand further explanations for their fines and suspensions.

Go-Jek has not yet made a public statement to the press about the demo.
