Bali Airport motorcycle parking garages to toss out flat rate, hourly charges to start in 2016

The days of driving yourself to Bali’s airport, then leaving your motorbike in the secure parking garage for a cheap flat rate of Rp 1,500 whilst for however long you travel, will soon be over.

Starting on January 1, 2016, if you park one of the motorcycle garages at Ngurah Rai Airport, you get to pay an hourly tariff after your first 12 hours.

“In the past, the tariff was the same for both short-term and long-term parking, and it turned out the garages were abused as ‘daycares’ for motorbikes from just a few days to even months,” Ngurah Rai Airport manger of Advertising and Land-side services, Pramudyo E Yuniato told Tribun Bali on Monday.

While the current tariff is a flat rate of Rp 1,500 per motorbike for any length of time, the new tariff will charge Rp 2,000 for the first 12 hours and then add a cumulative Rp 1,000 per hour after those first 12 hours.

To be honest, we’re surprised authorities didn’t catch on to this sooner and are just changing things now—though we wish it didn’t have to be such a drastic price hike.
