Bali Police chief assures public of safe Christmas and New Year

It’s hard not feel a bit anxious about safety in Bali with all the talk of security tightening measures around the holidays and looming threats of ISIS, but Bali’s police chief is saying the public should remain calm and enjoy the season.

“Ahead of Christmas and New Year’s, conditions in our region will remain positive,” Bali Police Chief Gen. Insp. Sugeng Priyanto said on Monday, as quoted by Tribun Bali

Priyanto says Bali will be secure and people should not worry, in spite of last week’s riots in and around Kerobokan Prison and not to forget a recent raid in Java that uncovered Islamist militants planning a string of attacks

The police chief also really seemed to emphasize that police are vigilant in preventing terrorism and that the riots were driven from gangs inside the prison, so we shouldn’t worry about residual issues from the Kerobokan clash that left four dead.
