Man pulled from Denpasar flight after joking to have bomb turns out to be Bali police officer

You would think in this day and age people would realize that it’s just not a good idea to joke about carrying explosives when traveling.

A man set to fly from Makassar, Sulawesi to Bali got arrested before boarding his Denpasar flight after making such a joke, claiming to have a bomb. But the kicker is that 25-year-old Cahyo Widiyanto is a Bali Police officer from the forensics unit, according to Kompas News

Now he should definitely have known better.

Widiyanto made the “joke” when going though the security x-ray at Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport on Sunday, before his Lion Air 645 flight.

“Cahyo joked he was carrying a bomb during the x-ray security check. He was immediately arrested and the seven pieces of luggage he brought and checked were confiscated. Officers immediately reexamined the passenger and all his baggage on the aircraft,” Muhammad Djafar, head of Hasanuddin Airport’s security, told Kompas.

However, police said they only found oleh-oleh (aka souvenirs) in the officer’s luggage, no bombs.

The flight to Bali was delayed because of the incident and Widiyanto was still held back for further investigation after the stunt he pulled.
