Blame Game: Margriet and Agus blame each other for Engeline’s murder

Things heated up yesterday when the two suspects on trial for eight-year-old Engeline’s murder faced each other: Engeline’s adoptive mother, Margriet Megawe and the family’s former gardner, Agustay Hamda May.

It was mutual recrimination as the two pointed fingers and blamed each other for the little girl’s murder.

“It was your own actions. Because of you, I’m in prison,” Agus said to Margriet when the court had them demonstrate a scene where Margriet allegedly came after Agus with a machete.

“You, it’s because of you,” Margriet responded, as quoted by Tribun Bali

That’s when one of Margriet’s attorneys, Dion Pongkor, jumped in to chide Agus: “Don’t be emotional Gus,” Pongkor said.

Then Judge Edward Harris Sinaga tried to do some mediating and said no further recrimination to the two defendants.

But Agus wasn’t having it and snapped back that he’s just an ordinary, poor man.

“Let’s not bring poverty into this, I was also poor, before,” Pongkor asserted, apparently getting in the last word before Judge Sinaga plead for order in the court.

The trial will continue next week as the defense attorneys will file their witnesses.
