Jetstar flight attendant too sick to work, whole flight to Bali gets cancelled

A flight to Bali from Perth got thrown off when a crew member suddenly fell ill before the flight was set to depart and the airline was unable to find a replacement on such short notice.

Australian aviation regulations require Airbus 320 flights to have four flight attendants on duty.

Passengers of course were not thrilled with the cancelled flight and how the announcement was handled—they were reportedly told of the cancellation at 6:20 am, the same time the flight was originally scheduled to takeoff.

One passenger told WAtoday that the flight wasn’t rescheduled and most of the passengers had to collect their bags and go back out of the terminal.

“Ten people got on the next flight in an hour and the rest of us had to walk back downstairs,” she said.

“When we asked why [the flight was cancelled], they said a staff member didn’t turn up. We saw the pilots on the plane so assumed it was a flight attendant.

“[Afterwards] the lines were huge and going nowhere at the Jetstar counter.” Yay for lines at airports, the last place you want to be when your plans get messed up.

Jetstar apologized for the inconvenience: “While these types of cancellations are very rare, we understand it would have been extremely frustrating and our team worked to get passengers to their destination as quickly as possible on alternative flights,” a spokesman said.

At least the delayed passengers reportedly got food and beverage vouchers as well as accommodation.
