An Australian man arrested on assault charges will be facing trial in Bali.
The man, identified in reports as Scott Dobson, was arrested this December in Bali for a crime he was wanted for—that he allegedly committed three years ago.
The 52-year-old is charged with openly committing violence against persons or property, accused of assaulting Canadian man Kenneth James Wickes, the manager of popular Kuta nightclub Sky Garden, reports AAP.
According to police, the violent incident erupted on Sept. 27, 2013 over the Australian’s refusal to pay his and his friends’ bill for beers and vodka at the club.
There’s said to be CCTV footage that shows the assault unfold.
Denpasar police detective chief Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan says that Wickes confronted the group, asking “What’s going on? I have three staff members reporting you are being rude and refusing to pay for drinks. What is the problem?”
From there, Dobson allegedly pushed Wickes and then assaulted him further after climbing atop the table.
“Because of the punches, the victim suffered from a bruise on the eye, a wound on the lips and broken tooth,” Reinhard said on Thursday, as quoted by AAP.
The Denpasar District Attorney’s Office is working on an indictment and says the Australian will face trial soon. His charges could land him five years behind bars.
In the mean time, he’s reportedly being held at Kerobokan Prison.
