Bali Marathon 2016 sets target of 7,000 participants

This year’s Bali Marathon is aiming to be bigger and better than ever before, setting its participant target at 7,000 runners, up by 30 percent from last year.

The race has apparently also slightly changed its official name, dropping a sponsor from its title, going from the BII Maybank Bali Marathon to Maybank Bali Marathon.

“We hope that there is an increase in participants this year. But, we will also implement changes in the race start for convenience of the participants, keeping in mind the roads in Bali are not so wide,” President Director of Maybank Indonesian Taswin Zakaria said on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara

The marathon is scheduled for August 28, 2016 in  Gianyar and will offer full-marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and children’s categories.

“We have accounted for various factors including religious festivities, the weather, and even the National Games in 2016 before setting the race date,” Zakaria explained on the date selection, though he has not yet disclosed the registration fees of the race.

Registration for the race will open on April 15, 2016, Zakaria says.

You can count us in. The Bali Marathon is for sure Bali’s best running event thanks to the beautiful scenery and enthusiastic locals who dress up and cheer on the runners during the race:

Excuse the shaky footage, we were too busy running and enjoying the gamelan to hold still!
