Starting tomorrow night, people are going to have to wait, if they want to cross the Bali Strait between Bali and Java.
Though we’d imagine people are only making that crossing out of necessity now, after news hit on Friday of a ferry sinking in the strait, with five confirmed casualties so far.
Both ports in the main Bali-Java crossing route Gilimanuk (Bali) and Ketapang (Java) will be closed from March 8 at 11 pm until March 10 at 4 am, according to Kompas News.
The closure is in honor of the Hindu celebration of Nyepi in Bail.
General Manager for PT Indonesia Ferry (Persero) ASDP Ketapang, M Yusuf Hadi said parking spaces at the closing ports have been prepared for the vehicle buildup that is expected to ensue. The loading process has also been accelerated, he added.
