Body of Amokrane Sabet to be repatriated to Algeria: Bali Police

The body of the ex-MMA fighter controversially taken down by police last week after he fatally stabbed a police officer will be flown to Algeria, a Bali Police spokesman said.

Though he has been widely identified in reports as a French national, it turns out Amokrane Sabet had dual citizenship, also holding a passport from his native Algeria, Bali Police spokesman Hery Wiyanto said.

“Amok came here using a French passport and will be sent to a different country. But we’ve already submitted everything to the honorable French Consul because the passport he used was French,” Wiyanto said on Wednesday, as quoted by Tribun Bali

“After that, from the French Consul, he will be handed over to his family,” he added.

His family will take him to Algeria, reports said.

“The honorary French Consul already met us. They’ve given their condolences on the death of Brigadier AA Putu Sudiarta. And they’ve also asked for help packing Amokrane’s belongings,” Wiyanto said.

“A younger sibling of Amokrane is also here. His sibling will send the body.”

However, Wiyanto said he was not sure when the body will be sent from the French Consul.
