13-year-old found dead, floating in North Kuta beach after swept away by sea

A 13-year-old junior high school student was swept away by strong currents while on the beach in Batu Belig on Saturday afternoon. 

He was discovered one day later to have tragically died, apparently from drowning. 

The body of I Kadek Agus Surianta was reportedly found on Sunday, floating just 800 meters from where he had been swimming.

Chief of Operations for Denpasar Search and Rescue, Gede Darmada, said rescue teams from Badung along with North Kuta Police had been searching since Sunday morning for the boy.

“The victim was found to be dead, without clothes, about 800 meters from the scene (where he was last seen),” Darmada said, as quoted by Merdeka. 

Darmada said his team is appealing to tourists, especially local tourists, to take care when on the beach because of the dangerous currents.
