Police ‘disappointed’ in rival gangs as another clash nearly breaks out in Denpasar post ‘peace agreement’

A truce brokered between two Bali rival gangs seems to not be holding out so well after a near outbreak on Thursday in Denpasar.

Things got out of hand between Bali mass-organizations Laskar and Baladika in and around Kerobokan Prison on December 17, 2015. Violence erupted in Kerobokan and Jl. Teuku Umar, leaving four dead.

A “peace agreement” between the two organizations had been established following the incident. Both groups agreed to respect legal proceedings of those involved in the brawl, but tensions on Thursday show how precarious the truce was.

According to Tribun Bali reports, both organizations nearly clashed again on Thursday afternoon at Jl. Sudirman. People from both gangs got face-to-face with sharp weapons in hand. But, thankfully police were apparently able to diffuse the situation before violence broke out.

Like a sad parent, Denpasar Police Chief Anak Agung Made Sudana expressed his disappointment over the failure of the peace agreement that had previously been brokered at Bali Police headquarters. Why can’t these kids just get along, ya?

“When it’s like this, I am very disappointed. I had already carried out my duties well with police. But then the parties that had declared a truce, returned to conflict. I’m so disappointed,” Sudana said.

A spokesman for Denpasar District Court, Achmad Peten Sili, also made an appeal to the leadership of the organizations involved to better control their members.
