Infant mortality reaches 121 cases in Bali this year

As of April 2016, the number of infant mortality cases on record reached 121.

While in 2015, there were 379 reported infant mortality deaths, according to Tribun Bali

Head of the Family Health Division of the Bali Provincial Health Office Dr. Kadek Iwan Darmawan says the issue of infant mortality is very complex, with the multitude of factors that come into play.

Infant deaths could be caused from maternal nutrition, anemia, or other diseases like diabetes. Other than that, early marriage is also said to lead to infant mortality.

“Marrying young while giving birth at a young age also has an effect,” Darmawan said.
