Plane circles around Bali airport after damage to runway forces quick closure

Bali’s airport shut down earlier this morning after part of the runway was damaged and required maintenance.

Ngurah Rai Airport stopped flights from landing and taking off around 9:40 am because the western part of the runway close to the ocean cracked, Tribun Bali is reporting.

The airport was set to reopen earlier this afternoon, according to Lion Air Representative, Putri Arum.

A tweet by Bali Airport confirmed that the airport has already reopened after runway maintenance:

Because of the messed up runway, a flight landing from Lombok had to be diverted after minutes of circling above Ngurah Rai Airport.

Meanwhile, inside of the airport building, the domestic terminal was really piling up with passengers, Tribun observed.
