COCONUTS HOT SPOT — When searching for motorbike parking, sometimes you see people lose it and their inner savage comes out. Usually, we’d prefer for these crazies to stay at home. But, when it comes to dining out, there’s one savage in Canggu we’re cool with, and that’s the Savage Kitchen.
The main concept is more of a DIY menu (be sure to add that to your Pinterest page). Choose your protein, side, salad, and sauce for the perfect “savage creation.” Both the rustic cabbage and green papaya salad with mint, peanuts, and coriander along with the broccoli and coconut salad with apple, edamame, and dried chili, especially caught our eye. That was before the hunger games officially began. When we saw the cashew pesto sauce, we’d volunteer as tribute.
The prices range from vegetarian options for Rp 75k to king prawn or Australian skirt steak for Rp 160k. We guess it really just depends on how hard of a day it was hunting and gathering certain goods.
So before you try to barter a better deal, you really should know that you’re paying for high quality products.
“About 80 percent of the food we serve is from organic suppliers in Bali that we know and trust. Our beef comes from Australia and fish from Lombok because, well, we can rely on them and trust their practices,” one of the restaurant owners, Rosalyne, explained to Coconuts Bali.
They pride themselves on serving the freshest food, which is delivered daily. Proper savages fight to get the best food.
While the kitchen is not labeled as paleo, gluten free, or vegan, it is certainly friendly to all of the above. The only bread served is actually gluten free, made from pumpkin seeds. But not even a gluten lover would notice a difference; it’s so good that you may even want to get some to takeaway.
To wash down that bread, we 100 percent recommend their best seller drink, the “wild red ginger nectar” made with forest honey. Grab a glass in store or a full bottle to take home.
Savage Kitchen’s first five weeks in Canggu have been viciously good.
