A Chinese tourist has reportedly been caught stealing cosmetics from the duty-free area of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Yao Dong Mei, 47, was about to depart Bali on a Singapore Airlines flight on Saturday when Yao set off an alarm while leaving the duty-free shop, reports said.

“If (the alarm) sounds, someone is definitely trying to pass goods, products sold in Duty Free through, that are unpaid. Furthermore, officers immediately intercepted the perpetrator and conducted an examination of the duffle bag (Yao) was carrying. It was  skin care products from two different brands, Sisley Ecological and La Mer the Con,” Tribun Bali quoted an unnamed airport officer as saying.

The skincare products were reportedly worth around Rp 9 million.

Local news reports of the theft have not yet confirmed what kind of disciplinary action, if any, was pursued.
