Denpasar stabbing: Woman and 10-year-old son attacked, mother declared dead on the way to the hospital

Denpasar Criminal Police are still hunting the perpetrator of a stabbing that lead to the death of a local woman and the critical injury of her son in the Monang-Maning area on Tuesday.

The mother, Suyani, reportedly died on the way to the hospital while her 10-year-old son Jafar is still being treated at Sanglah Hospital, based on the latest reports from Tribun Bali.

The perp has been described as a man wearing white with blue stripes at the time of the attack. Witnesses saw the man fleeing, brandishing a knife.

Residents say they tried to block the man, but gave way as he waved his knife.

Violent crimes aren’t very common in Denpasar, so it’s especially surprising and troubling that something like this would happen in broad daylight.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story wrote the son’s age as 11 years old, based on local Bali reports. Since publishing, reports have listed the boy’s age as 10 years old. This story has been edited for accuracy.
