6.2 quake from East Java rattles Bali

Night owls in Bali got quite the shake on Wednesday night when the vibrations of a 6.2 quake originating near Malang, East Java could be felt on the island.

Based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 11:10 pm, Bali time, about 127 kilometers southeast from Malang.

The quake, thankfully did not trigger a tsunami warning in Bali. It had an aftershock of 4.3, according to BMKG, and could be felt all the way from Yogyakarta, Java to Lombok.

In the event of another earthquake, BMKG advises to take the following steps.

If you are inside a building:
-Protect your body and your head from debris by binding under a table, etc.
-Find the safest place from debris
-Run outside if possible

If you are outside:
-Avoid structures, like buildings, power poles, trees, etc.
-Watch where you stand, avoiding cracks

If you are driving:
-Get out, down and away from the car in case it’s jolted or if there’s a fire

If you are on the beach:
-Get away from the beach to avoid the danger of a tsunami

If you live in the mountains:
-Avoid possible landslide areas

We know, easier said than done! But try to safe out there, folks!
