Police confirm drug tests negative for Aussie teen, Skygarden explains arrest footage was ‘reenactment’

What a difference a day makes. Things are looking a heck of a lot better today for an Australian teen, who was arrested on Tuesday at popular nightclub Skygarden over some suspicious white powder.

Tests analyzing the powder that club security allegedly found in 18-year-old Jamie Murphy’s bumbag have determined that the substance did not contain any illegal drugs, Bali police have now confirmed.

Had the powder come back as drugs — police suspected it was cocaine or heroin — Murphy could have been facing charges carrying a 12 year penalty for drug posession.

“We have tested the white powder and it’s not drugs,” Koesnadi, head of the police forensics lab in Denpasar said, as quoted in a report by Cindy Wockner of News Corp Australia.

The powder contained at least four materials, including caffeine and painkillers, according to Koesnadi.

Blood and urine tests from the Perth teen also came back negative, he confirmed.

Video that appeared to have been taken of Murphy’s arrest had many speculating whether or not the teen was set up, as the footage showed club security holding the pack of powder and apparently placing it in his bag.

However, the nightclub has offered an explanation, saying that this particular footage was a reenactment after Murphy was arrested. Skygarden also released the original CCTV footage

“Our security were ordered to re-enact the sequence of events that transpired; at this time news media were already stationed and filmed the re-enactment,” Skygarden wrote in a statement.
