Earthquake shakes Lombok, tremors felt in Bali

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale reportedly shook up Bali’s neighbor Lombok on Thursday.

Tremors could apparently be felt by some in Bali in Denpasar, Gianyar, Nusa Dua, and Karangasem (east Bali).

The quake hit at 12:21 am, about 23 kilometers northwest of Lombok’s capital city, Mataram. The depth of the earthquake was also about 24 kilometers, reports Republika.

The earthquake did not have tsunami potential, according to Daryono, the chief information officer for earthquakes and tsunamis, of BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency).

“People on the coast of west Lombok and Karangasem, Bali are advised to remain calm because the earthquake does not have tsunami potential,” Republika quoted Daryono as saying.

Yesterday’s earthquake comes just a week after Bali got shaken by a 6.2 quake, originating in East Java
