A crowdfunding page has been set up to help a long-time Bali expat, who was apparently seriously injured in a motorbike accident in Bali on Nov. 21.
Belgian woman Muriel (Miyu) Schoovaerts was hit riding her bike back home, when crossing an intersection, according to the GoFundMe page that seeks to raise โฌ50k for her.
Schoovaerts needed multiple surgeries following the accident, which had left her unconscious and with a handful of serious injuries, including multiple complex fractures (hip, pelvis, femur, open ankle, foot and toe), explains the GoFundMe profile.
Though sheโs apparently lived in Bali for eight years and even had Indonesian insurance, sheโs not covered because no breath test was done on the driver of the car that hit her, or on her, to analyze whether either of them were under the influence of alcohol. Despite the driver being apprehended by the police, the absence of such tests rendered her records incomplete, the GoFundMe profile claims.
The Belgian will need more than โฌ50k explains the fundraising page:
โAccording to the attending physicians she will be unable to work for at least a year. At this point in time, it is unclear if Muriel will suffer some degree of permanent injury. The costs of surgery, prolonged hospitalization, aftercare and rehabilitation are still being investigated. However, it is apparent that the final sum will rise above 50,000 euro.โ
Schoovaerts has apparently gotten assistance from the Belgian Embassy, but itโs not clear what kind of help can be provided.
Just over โฌ5k has been raised for Schoovaerts, as of writing time on Monday evening.
