Russian stopped by Bali Customs over three kilos of hashish stuffed into toothpaste: report

A Russian national has been arrested by customs officials at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle in three kilos of hashish from Malaysia to Bali.

Ngurah Rai Customs Chief Budi Harjanto told local media on Wednesday that the Russian, identified in local reports as Roman Rushkalasnikov, 29, packed the drugs, in extract form, into his toothpaste. Into 27 tubes of ‘Dant Kanti’ brand toothpaste, that is.

“The suspect’s strategy was to put (the extract) into toothpaste,” Tribun Bali quoted Harjanto as saying.

The Russian landed in Bali from KL on Sunday, Dec. 11 on Malindo Air flight OD-316 around 3:30 pm.

According to Harjanto, the Russian could be facing life imprisonment.
