Construction on the “Yellow Bridge” linking Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan islands has run over its target deadline, but it is 90 percent there, according to Klungkung Public Works.
The bridge, an iconic point of interest connecting the two small islands near Bali, collapsed in October 2016, tragically killing eight.
Since the bridge’s collapse, government agencies have been working to rebuild and had hoped to finish construction by the end of 2016.
Head of Klungkung Public Works I Gusti Supartana described the challenges of the Office National Road Implementation Region VIII, for finishing the bridge on time. Explaining obstacles to local newspaper Tribun Bali, Supartana apparently mainly pinpointed the weather and tide conditions as the problem.
“At low tide, workers not able to transport materials (to the site). So smooth construction of the Yellow Bridge is very dependent on natural conditions. And so, weather problems and the tide have caused the completion of the Yellow Bridge to be a little late,” Supartana told Tribun Bali on Friday.
“Currently, the physical realization of the Yellow Bridge is already at 90 percent. Hopefully by mid-January, the Yellow Bridge can already be in use by local residents,” Supartana said.
