A fire broke out on one of the upper levels of Sarinah, one of Jakarta’s oldest and most iconic shopping  centers, yesterday morning. The building was temporarily shut down while employees were evacuated and firefighters fought the blaze on the 14th floor.

The fire began at about 10:45 am and is believed to have started due to a gas canister exploding in the kitchen of Masterpiece Karaoke, which is owned by musician Ahmad Dhani. A total of 21 fire engines were deployed to the scene to fight the blaze.

The fire reportedly injured two kitchen staff at Masterpiece Karaoke. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to Tempo, one suffered serious burns to 80% of his body.
