Former Bali drug convict Schapelle Corby does not want to be swallowed by her negative emotions for the 9th anniversary of her release from prison.
Instead, she is choosing positivity and has decided to share some of it with her followers.
In an Instagram post uploaded over the weekend, Corby stated that she woke up remembering her stint.
“Today is actually the 9th year anniversary of me being released from my previous life, the shithole, the FML, the ‘Hotel’ Kerobokan,” the 45-year-old Australian said in the clip.
‘”Hotel” Kerobokan is local slang for Kerobokan Prison, which is notorious for housing some of the island’s most infamous convicts, such as the Bali Nine, as well as a long history of riots and violence.
Corby went on, saying, “I kind of really surprised myself with my emotions this morning. I felt queasy in my stomach.”
Corby’s voice quivered, but she quickly pulled it together and insisted that she did not want any negativity.
“Not today. I’m going to make myself some Pina Colada and go for a swim.”
In addition, Corby, who has published a book about her journey, said that she is throwing in a homemade clock in a giveaway to her followers.
Corby showed interest in clockmaking in her previous posts. The red-and-gold clock that’s being given away, she said, was made last October.
“I will choose the winner… I don’t know when. Early next week,” she added, adding in the caption that the winner must follow her on Instagram and must be in Australia.
Corby’s case is well known in Australia and Bali, where it received intense media coverage. In case you need a reminder: Corby was arrested in 2004 with 4.2 kilograms of cannabis in her boogie board bag.
Corby consistently maintained her innocence, insisting that the drugs were planted. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2005 — a penalty that was later cut after standard remissions and an appeal to the president. After nine years behind bars, Corby was released on parole in early 2014, but had to stay in Bali until her parole ended in 2017.
